RESULTS FROM STUDIO OWNERS LIKE YOU

"Joining the SEP has reignited our passion and excitement for not only our studio and business, but for each other’s talents and commitments to the children and families involved at Dancinality. This program is far more than strategy sessions and workshops, it is a life skill tool that allows business owners the opportunity to breathe and feel united in strengths and weaknesses without judgement."

Sharyn Taylor, Dancinality NSW

"The Studio Expansion Program has done two huge things for me: I know what makes my studio different from “all the others” and I love it, I know how to shout it from the roof tops and who I want to hear it. I always knew that systemization of the inner workings of my studio be a benefit to me; but the task always seemed to daunting, with Chantelle’s help I have the skills and knowhow to it."

Bernie Bock-Davis, Suwanee Academy of the Arts, Georgia USA

“I feel inspired and very grateful to have the Student Attraction system and access to the wealth of information that’s so generously provided. I always loved Chantelle’s videos, she radiates positive, can-do energy; so I was excited to take the plunge and buy the system. Thank-you Chantelle, you are a mentor to me and I love your work!”

Dwindling student numbers

What impact were these challenges having on you and your studio?
It was making me feel like I’m not doing a good job any more.

What was your experience when getting started and applying what you were learning in the program to your studio?
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, realising that I have to turn all my thinking around and be willing to try anything.

I am much more motivated to continue on and save my studio. Its giving me confidence to try new ways.

I love the way that Chantelle is so supportive and so ready to help.

What made you decide to join Studio Expansion? What had you done in the past to help grow your studio?
I decided that after 29 years my 30th year was to be do or die. I have done minimal advertising.

How has Studio Expansion improved your business?
I have only just started the program but I know that with my renewed way of thinking only good things will happen for me.

“I would highly recommend that any studio owners connect with Studio Expansion. I’ve gained insights into marketing that are specific to the creative arts, my area specifically being music, which I have previously struggled with. It’s clear, simple and to the point. Overall excellent service, information and support.”

Q&A

Amy Kimball-Niepmann, Suwanee Academy of the Arts, USA

What type of studio do you run?
I work for a performing arts studio that offers dance, drama and music classes to children beginning at age 2.5 years thru adult. We pride ourselves on teaching classical ballet (Cecchetti curriculum/certifications) in addition to Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and tasteful HipHop, and Viola Spolin-influenced drama. We house (rent studio space to) independent, but like-minded, private lesson teachers that offer instrument lessons and voice lessons.

What challenges had you been facing in your studio before you joined the program?
Trying to be all things to all people. We wanted to fill more classes, but were using more of a shotgun/general awareness approach that wasn’t necessarily speaking to any particular student type. Struggled with how best to reach the students that we wanted to attract.

What impact were these challenges having on you and your studio?
Lots of false starts (seemingly great ideas that never evolved past the idea stage); wasted money by purchasing ads that seemed like they might reach interested students that in reality generated little if any business.

What was your experience when getting started and applying what you were learning in the program to your studio?
Lots of “a-ha” moments. I have a degree in business and spent a lot of time in marketing classes. But I have been unable to pull together a plan that would translate into growth. The Studio Expansion Program provides that plan (THANK YOU!!!!!), and now I have clear steps/tasks to follow/complete that will help our studio blossom and grow in a way that we have been blindly trying to do for years.

What changes have you noticed in your studio (with your students / teachers / marketing / your own motivation) since you started the program?
My passion for a job that I already loved, but had perhaps grown a bit too passive in, has been reinvigorated!   In this program, I feel as if we are climbing a mountain (there is a lot of work, but it is very exciting!) and that it will be unbelievably spectacular once we reach the top.

It is such a relief to have a specific goal and direction, and is actually more manageable time-wise to work towards that goal without trying to do everything all the time. Baby steps that will result in more baby students!!!

What specifically did you find most valuable about the program?
If I were to choose something to date, I think I have found the Marketing Monopoly module to be most valuable to me in my role as marketing manager. The tangible clarity of who we are trying to attract makes creating collateral pieces SO much easier – the message can be so much more simple since I am not trying to attract EVERYONE with one piece.

What made you decide to join Studio Expansion? What had you done in the past to help grow your studio?
We really enjoyed the webinar on tiny tots… Chantelle’s depth of knowledge and style of instructing was almost intoxicating (I suppose since we are in the US, the Australian accent plays in to the magic ;)). We were smitten by her charisma – we couldn’t wait to get started on the SEP! – and have not been disappointed in any of the modules that we have experienced so far.

In the past, we have done a lot of talking about who we needed to be attracting, have placed print ads in newspapers and magazines as well as some local school publications (playbills, directories), and have seen little growth from those avenues. We became convinced that word of mouth advertising was going to be the best way for us to grow – by creating raving fans and organically growing as a result of their raves. Not a total failure, but certainly not anything we had any control over.

How has Studio Expansion improved your business?
Still remains to be seen, but we are confident that we will able to implement the SEP action items and actually TRACK results (something we have consistently failed to do). We are encouraged that we will be successful in our efforts, and that we will be seeking additional space to accommodate all of the new students in the near term.

After 10 years of operating within the whims of the neighbourhood , I feel that we will be able to control our destiny going forward by attracting and retaining like-minded students, by having our principals establish themselves in the community as the subject matter experts that they so clearly are, and by implementing/maintaining an evolving marketing plan that will keep Suwanee Academy of the Arts relevant in and around our community.

The Studio Expansion Program provides a framework to map out and then make real plans to expand and/or create programs that embody the passions and expertise of our founders (Patty & Bernie) for the benefit of children and adults alike. “Inspiring Excellence Through Arts Education” is now a clearly achievable outcome.

"Deciding to be a part of the SEP has been critical in the development of taking my dance school to the next stage, both from the way I approach things as a Director and also from a results basis too. The course is not dry in the slightest like many business courses, so it suits the Performing Arts to a T and coupled with Chantelle's genuine care for each individual, her follow ups, her enthusiasm to make our businesses better and her practical and easy steps to implement to give the students the best experiences, all lead to a very well thought out and inspiring program.
