Instagram Stories for Studios

This week Instagram has launched a fun new feature called “Instagram Stories”. This feature is set to rival Snapchat as you’re able to share multiple photos and videos that appear in a slideshow format. The photos and videos then disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile or in your followers feed. Pretty cool, huh?!

At the top of your feed there is a bar containing the profile photos of your friends and favourite Instagram accounts who have posted to their Instagram story. When there’s something new to see, their profile photo will have a colourful Instagram ring around it.

Unlike regular posts there are no likes and comments but you can see who’s been watching your stories by swiping up when viewing your own story.

You’re in control, tap to go back or forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story.

Make sure you update your app and go and have a little play within Instagram to familiarise yourself with this exciting new feature for your studio marketing.

If you find you would like to feature part of your story on your profile grid permanently, there’s a function for this too!

Studio Marketing- So what does this all mean for my studio Instagram account?

Have you ever felt that you should be snapchat-ing as well as Instagram-ing for your studio? But you feel as though your target audience are just not on Snapchat yet? Well here’s your answer! All the informal, behind the scenes style fun of Snapchat straight to your already engaged audience on Instagram.

It is yet another way to really engage with your audience on an informal, personal level so that they can really get to know and trust you and your studio.

If you’ve carefully cultivated a beautiful looking Instagram profile grid, you don’t have to worry about over posting or making your account look “ugly” as Instagram Story posts are temporary and won’t be visible within your profile grid.

How can I use Instagram Stories within my Studio Marketing?

This is the fun part where you can get creative and really enjoy the process. Don’t overthink things or get too stressed about what content is going to be best. It’s only going to be visible for 24 hours anyway.

Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Behind the scenes video clips of choreography for an upcoming showcase
  • A “Backstage Pass” into the day in the life of your studio
  • “Monday mornings at Studio Excellence”
  • Showcase your “Dancer of the Day” or “Musician of the Moment”.

Due to the temporary nature of Instagram Stories you can strengthen your connection with your followers by giving them an authentic insight into you and your studio.
